Colombia has one of the most active K-pop communities in Latin America. Bogotá hosts the annual K-Pop World Festival supported by the South Korean embassy, drawing dancers and fans from across the country.
BTS performed in Colombia for the first time recently — a moment that felt enormous to local fans who had been waiting years for it. The Korean Wave is not a passing trend here.
It has been building for over a decade and it has produced something interesting: a generation of Colombians who genuinely love Korean culture and want to actually understand it.
Learning Korean to engage with the culture on its own terms — not through subtitles or translations — is a motivation that might sound informal, but it produces serious learners.
People who are genuinely interested in a language tend to progress faster than people who are studying out of obligation.
South Korean companies have been expanding their presence in Latin America, and Colombia is part of that story.
Korean automotive, electronics, cosmetics, and entertainment companies all have regional operations, and professionals who can bridge Korean and Colombian business environments are genuinely rare and genuinely valuable.
K-beauty has also become a serious industry in Colombia, with Korean skincare and cosmetics brands building significant retail presence. For professionals in beauty, retail, and e-commerce, Korean language skills are becoming a meaningful differentiator.
Korean has its own writing system — Hangul — which looks intimidating but is actually one of the most logically designed scripts in the world. Most learners can read it within a week or two.
From there, the grammar is the main adjustment: it works differently from Spanish in structure and word order. With a native instructor from day one, the early levels move faster than most people expect.
Group classes meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm Colombia time. Private 1-on-1 sessions are available with flexible scheduling.
