Canadian universities require it. UK visa applications often require it. Australian immigration requires it.
US graduate programmes ask for TOEFL. And most Colombian universities with international exchange programmes want to see a certified score before they send you anywhere.
The test itself is not a measure of whether you speak English. It is a measure of whether you can perform under exam conditions in four specific modules, and that is a skill you have to practise separately — even if your English is genuinely good.
The biggest mistake Colombian learners make is treating IELTS or TOEFL preparation the same way they treated high school English. Reading grammar explanations, doing vocabulary exercises, watching YouTube videos about tips.
None of that prepares you for the actual test the way structured practice with a qualified instructor does.
IELTS Writing Task 2 has a specific structure that examiners look for. IELTS Speaking Part 3 tests your ability to discuss abstract topics fluently under pressure.
TOEFL Integrated Writing requires you to synthesise a lecture and a reading passage in real time. These are learnable skills, but only if you actually practise them in conditions that resemble the real exam.
Sessions are private and 1-on-1, which means every hour of preparation is focused on your specific weaknesses, not a generic syllabus.
Your instructor identifies where you are losing band score points or TOEFL marks and works directly on those areas — whether that is Writing coherence, Speaking pronunciation, Reading speed, or Listening accuracy. Scheduling is fully flexible around your work or study commitments.
