Brazil is just right there, fellas. Literally next door, separated by a stretch of Amazon rainforest, and it happens to be the largest economy in Latin America and the eighth largest in the world.
More than 215 million people live there and they all speak Portuguese. Yet somehow, most Colombian professionals have never seriously thought about learning it. Which means if you do, you are already ahead.
Trade between Colombia and Brazil has been growing for years, covering agriculture, energy, manufacturing, and increasingly the tech sector.
The practical problem that comes up again and again in these business relationships is simple: Brazilians largely do not negotiate in Spanish, and English as a middle ground does not always hold up well.
A Colombian professional who can hold a conversation in Portuguese brings something to the table that most of their peers simply cannot.
For Spanish speakers, Portuguese is genuinely one of the easiest foreign languages to pick up. The grammar structure is similar, the vocabulary overlaps more than you would expect, and most learners are holding basic conversations within a few weeks of consistent practice.
The main things to get used to are the nasal sounds, a few grammatical quirks, and the rhythm of the language — none of which take very long when you are learning with a native speaker who can actually explain them to you.
Group classes run Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm Colombia time, covering levels from A1.1 through B2.1.
Private 1-on-1 sessions are available with flexible scheduling if you prefer a faster pace or more personalised focus.
